Parents are the teachers who provide direction instruction and monitor student progress using instructional strategies that are responsive to the individual learning needs of their children.

Teacher-Advisors assist families in tailoring instruction to individual skills, interests, and styles. Quite often, students go above and beyond grade-level standards!

Horizons School is part of the Mt. Diablo Unified School District.  Horizons is a fully WASC-accredited school, with California credentialed teachers, and has an UC/CSU approved college preparatory program.  Courses in Horizons School meet all the requirements for graduation from the Mt. Diablo Unified School District.

The mission of Horizons Home Study is to enter into a partnership with parents to help students succeed as learners and to become productive citizens. A diversity of educational philosophies within the framework of a learning contract is honored. Parents assume the responsibility for their students' learning and for the management of curriculum. Parents, teachers, and students show mutual respect and caring by treating all individuals with dignity.

Workshops are developed in response to what our currently enrolled families most need and want as a group.

In the past, we have organized such opportunities as monthly  outings to area museums and parks, on-site art days, on-site STEAM workshops, parent-teacher trainings, and more! We are always listening and developing programs tailored to the individual and to the group.

Of course, a fundamental part of meetings with your Teacher-Advisor is receiving 1:1 "workshops" in which you are given materials and taught strategies that are individualized for your child.

Enrollment in grades K-8 is available to families residing in the Mt. Diablo Unified School District (MDUSD) or in an adjacent school district or county.  For more information visit Horizons Enrollment Eligibility page.
